Swarm is a peer-to-peer data storage and distribution platform designed to deliver scalable and self-sustaining infrastructure for the data economy. The network aims to provide the foundational infrastructure for a fully decentralized internet.

Created by Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood, Swarm was built on the Ethereum blockchain for its security, smart contract capabilities and network of developers. Through Swarm's fair data principles, users retain sovereignty over their personal data. In addition, Swarm's architecture allows it to be resilient to censorship, connectivity issues, node churn, DDOS attacks and offers zero downtime.

Beyond data storage, Swarm also provides a full stack of essential base layer components for developers to create and host decentralized applications (dApps), NFT metadata and media files in a decentralized manner. To encourage network buy-in, Swarm offers grants and mentorship to projects interested in building on Swarm.

The native token, BZZ, is used for transactions on the network, rewarding network contributors and governance.
